Baemin Signs Agreement with Jeju Province to Promote Reusable Containers

Introduction in Select Areas Starting in August

Baemin is taking the lead in promoting the use of reusable containers in Jeju Province. On June 5, Woowa Brothers, the operator of Baemin, announced that it had signed a "business agreement to foster a culture of using reusable delivery containers" with Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, companies specializing in reusable containers, container collection companies, and related organizations?a total of 10 institutions?at the Jeju International Convention Center.

This agreement was signed in commemoration of World Environment Day on June 5. The Ministry of Environment and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) had previously selected Jeju as the host site for World Environment Day events. The signing ceremony was attended by Woowa Brothers CEO Bumseok Kim, Jeju Province Governor Younghun Oh, and key officials from related companies and organizations.

Each participating institution agreed to cooperate by dividing specific roles in order to promote the use of reusable delivery containers and achieve the goal of "Plastic Zero Jeju 2040." Through this agreement, Baemin will introduce features in its app to facilitate the use of reusable containers, conduct local campaigns and promotional activities, and work to raise awareness among stakeholders. In particular, Baemin plans to collaborate with the Jeju Tourism Association to support the activation of reusable container delivery orders at local accommodations, making it easier for Baemin customers in Jeju to place orders using reusable containers.

The use of reusable containers for delivery orders will be introduced first in Nohyeong-dong and Yeon-dong?areas in Jeju with high delivery order volumes?starting in August, and will be gradually expanded.

In March 2024, Baemin announced its "Baemin-Style Commitment for Sustainability," setting mid- to long-term goals to expand eco-friendly delivery practices. Since launching its reusable container delivery service in 2022, Baemin has been offering the service via its app in 20 districts in Seoul, 8 municipalities in Gyeonggi Province, and select areas in Incheon.

CEO Bumseok Kim stated, "We aim to spread an eco-friendly delivery culture by expanding sustainable packaging in Jeju, which is visited by many domestic and international tourists," adding, "We will continue to work with the government, local authorities, and partners to further promote eco-friendly delivery practices."
