On June 5, Buyeo County in South Chungcheong Province announced plans to build a 'short-term and day (integrated) care facility for the disabled' in Guyam-myeon to reduce the caregiving burden on individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

This facility, a key project of the 8th popularly elected administration, will primarily serve individuals with developmental disabilities aged 18 to 64, and is scheduled to open in February 2026.

The short-term residential facility will provide 24-hour care services for up to 30 days per stay in cases where guardians are absent for extended periods, such as hospitalization, funerals, or travel. It can accommodate up to 10 people at the same time.

The day care facility will operate on weekdays and will help improve the quality of life for people with disabilities through education and experience-based programs. The usage period ranges from three to six months, and the facility has a capacity of 12 people.

As of April, there were a total of 669 registered individuals with developmental disabilities in Buyeo County (628 with intellectual disabilities and 41 with autism), accounting for 10% of all registered individuals with disabilities. Among them, 499 are in the primary target age group of 18 to 64.

The county plans to use this project to expand its care infrastructure for people with disabilities and to strengthen its regionally tailored welfare system.

County Governor Park Junghyun stated, "The integrated care facility for people with disabilities will provide temporary respite for guardians and a stable care environment for individuals with disabilities," adding, "It will serve as an important turning point for restoring family functions and fostering inclusive growth in the local community."
