Chungnam Province is accelerating efforts to relocate the Forest Resources Research Institute and foster Cheongyang County as a "Chungnam-style tourism and research complex forest-specialized hub."

On June 4, the province held a mid-term report meeting on the basic concept (plan) and feasibility study for the relocation of the Forest Resources Research Institute at the provincial government office conference room. The meeting was presided over by Vice Governor for Administrative Affairs Park Jeongju and attended by Environment and Forest Bureau Director Kim Youngmyeong, officials from the province and Cheongyang County, representatives from the service provider, and about 20 experts.

During the report, the service provider presented a master plan proposal based on analysis of available development sites, case studies of domestic and international forest welfare complexes, demand estimation, introduction of facilities, and development direction.

The basic concept plan includes the creation of a forest welfare complex encompassing research, education, and welfare functions on a 3,429,771 square meter site in the Cheongyang-eup area. The complex will feature the Forest Resources Research Institute, a Forest Education Center, an Arboretum, a Healing Forest, and a Natural Recreation Forest.

Based on the basic concept plan, the province will proceed with a feasibility study and investment review. In the long term, the goal is to expand forest welfare services for residents and develop the site into a hub for Chungnam-style forest ecological tourism. The final relocation plan is scheduled to be finalized within this year.

A provincial official stated, "Based on the discussions at this meeting, we will further refine the basic concept plan and do our utmost to ensure the successful completion of the research institute's relocation."
