President Lee: "Military's Restrained Response to Unjust Orders During Martial Law Was Truly Commendable"

President Lee Jaemyung received a report on the transfer of military command authority from the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at his private residence in Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, at 8:07 a.m. on June 4. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff briefed President Lee on North Korean military movements and reported that there were no issues with the readiness posture of the South Korean military.

President Lee urged, "I trust in the military's loyalty and capabilities toward the people, and I hope you will do your utmost to ensure that the military continues to earn the love and trust of the people." He added, "Based on the ROK-U.S. combined defense posture, I ask you to closely monitor North Korean developments and maintain a flawless state of readiness."


He also commented on the military's actions during the 12·3 Martial Law. President Lee said, "It was truly commendable that, during the martial law situation, the military's loyalty to the nation and the people led to a restrained response to unjust orders, preventing major chaos." He continued, "Please do your best to ensure that service members can focus on national defense without anxiety and that the public does not have to worry about security."
