MBC Predicts Lee Jaemyung's Victory
Remaining Regional Votes Favor Lee Jaemyung
Lee Jaemyung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, is widening his lead over Kim Moonsu, the People Power Party candidate, increasing the likelihood of his victory. With 24.95% of the votes counted, Lee Jaemyung is ahead of Kim Moonsu by 3.97 percentage points.
According to the ballot count results announced by the National Election Commission at 11:00 p.m. on June 3, Kim Moonsu received 3,832,905 votes (43.91%), while Lee Jaemyung secured 4,179,734 votes (47.88%). Lee Joonseok, the Reform New Party candidate, garnered 626,732 votes (7.18%), Kwon Youngguk of the Democratic Labor Party received 79,446 votes (0.91%), and Song Jin-ho, an independent candidate, obtained 9,404 votes (0.10%).
By region, Kim Moonsu showed an overwhelming lead in North Gyeongsang Province with 64.47%, and also performed strongly in Daegu (72.00%) and Busan (51.23%), all in the Yeongnam region. Lee Jaemyung recorded high support in the Honam region, including North Jeolla Province (84.33%), South Jeolla Province (86.90%), and Gwangju (82.57%).
In Gyeonggi Province, Lee Jaemyung led with 46.76%, ahead of Kim Moonsu who had 44.05%, a difference of 2.71 percentage points. In Seoul, Kim Moonsu is slightly ahead with 46.18%, compared to Lee Jaemyung's 43.56%.
In the Chungcheong region, Lee Jaemyung led in South Chungcheong Province with 52.33%, 11.87 percentage points ahead of Kim Moonsu who had 40.46%. In North Chungcheong Province, Lee Jaemyung also led with 49.21%, 6.05 percentage points ahead of Kim Moonsu who had 43.16%.
Considering the regional distribution of the remaining votes, it is analyzed that Lee Jaemyung's chances of victory are expected to increase further. The MBC election prediction system projected at 10:47 p.m. on June 3 that Lee Jaemyung was highly likely to win. Previously, exit polls by the three major terrestrial broadcasters?KBS, MBC, and SBS?showed Lee Jaemyung with 51.7%, leading Kim Moonsu, who had 39.3%, by a margin of 12.4 percentage points.
