Gwangju 83.9%, Jeonnam 83.5%, Jeonbuk 82.5%
Highest Turnout Since the 15th Presidential Election in 1997
Nationwide 79.4%... Gurye and Sunchang Exceed 85%
In the 21st presidential election, Honam once again demonstrated its presence through voter turnout. The region recorded its highest turnout since the 15th presidential election in 1997, when former President Kim Dae-jung was elected, contributing to the overall increase in the national turnout rate.

According to the National Election Commission on June 3, as of 8 p.m. (provisional figures), Gwangju recorded the highest voter turnout in the country at 83.9%. Out of 1,194,471 eligible voters, 1,002,166 participated in the election.
This figure is 2.4 percentage points higher than the 81.5% recorded in the 20th presidential election. By district, Nam-gu had the highest turnout at 84.6%, followed by Dong-gu at 84%, Buk-gu at 83.9%, Gwangsan-gu at 83.8%, and Seo-gu at 83.4%, with all districts exceeding 80%. The highest turnout in Gwangju was 89.9% during the 15th presidential election.
Jeonnam also ranked second nationwide with a turnout of 83.6%. Of 1,559,431 eligible voters, 1,303,392 cast their ballots. This is 2.5 percentage points higher than in the 20th presidential election, and the highest since the 87.3% recorded in the 15th presidential election. By city and county, Gurye-gun had the highest turnout at 85.7%, followed by Wando-gun (85.5%), Haenam-gun (84.9%), Jindo-gun and Hampyeong-gun (both at 84.6%), and Goheung-gun (84.1%). All 22 cities and counties in Jeonnam recorded turnout rates above 80%.
Jeonbuk ranked fourth nationwide with a turnout of 82.5%, following Sejong (83.1%). Out of 1,510,908 eligible voters, 1,246,122 participated. This is a 1.9 percentage point increase from the 20th presidential election, and the highest since the 85.5% recorded in the 15th presidential election. All 15 constituencies in Jeonbuk recorded turnout rates above 80%, with Sunchang-gun recording the highest at 86.5%.
