Resident-Participatory Experience Event
for Ecological Restoration and Preservation of Traditional Farming Methods
On June 3, it was announced that a traditional hand rice planting experience event was held in the eco-friendly rice paddies within the Mungyeong Dolline Wetland, located in Ugok-ri, Sanbuk-myeon, Mungyeong-si, Gyeongbuk. The event was attended by more than 100 people, including students from Sanbuk Elementary School, local residents, visitors, and officials from related organizations.
This event was organized to expand habitats for wildlife in the Mungyeong Dolline Wetland, to pass down traditional agricultural culture, and to raise awareness of the importance of wetland conservation.
The event was jointly promoted by Mungyeong City, the Daegu Regional Environmental Office, Dolline Village Agricultural Cooperative Corporation, and several other organizations. Participants entered the rice paddies themselves and planted rice seedlings by hand, experiencing traditional farming methods firsthand.
The hand rice planting event, held annually since 2020, is part of a resident-participatory ecological restoration project. The rice grown using eco-friendly farming methods will be donated to social welfare institutions and local schools after the autumn harvest or used as food for wildlife.
An official from Mungyeong City stated, "The Mungyeong Dolline Wetland is a space where agriculture and ecology coexist. This event was a meaningful opportunity for citizens to experience the importance of wetlands and to reflect on the value of sharing." The official also added, "We plan to continue promoting ecological experience education and ecological restoration projects in the future."
