Over 150 Contemporary Artworks and Graphite Drawings by Eom Soyoung
Simultaneous Exhibition at San55 and Gallery Omok from June 5
Chilgok in North Gyeongsang Province is set to be immersed in a wave of art. The Chilgok Arts Council (Chairman Seo Sesung) announced on June 3 that it will host a contemporary art exhibition from June 5 to July 30 as part of the North Gyeongsang Cultural Foundation's "Artworks Support Project."
This exhibition will be held simultaneously at "San55," a multi-purpose cultural space operated by the Chilgok Arts Council, and at Gallery Omok. It will feature a contemporary art exhibition themed on "Arirang," a cultural signifier in the Korean collective unconscious, as well as an invitational solo exhibition by artist Eom Soyoung, titled 『Hwa:Ga』.
In particular, Eom Soyoung's solo exhibition on the second floor of Gallery Omok is drawing attention for its delicate portrayal of the inner self through repeated graphite lines and persistent drawing.
Participating artists in the "San55" opening exhibition include the French master Koscun, the Mongol Blue Sun Contemporary Art Group, and Korean artists Kwon Gicheol, Kim Gyeolsu, No Yeol, Park Jongtae, Ida, and Jo Sunhee. In total, more than 150 works will be on display.
These artists visualize Korean sentiment and regional identity by deconstructing and reconstructing "Arirang," and they shed new light on Chilgok's artistic potential within the context of global art trends.
Among the exhibition spaces, "San55" will operate by reservation only. Chairman Seo Sesung stated, "We have chosen a limited opening method to provide a deeper immersive experience and a better viewing environment," and added, "We hope visitors will experience the intersection of local and global art here in Chilgok."
Additionally, the exhibition will feature a creative Arirang arrangement performed in collaboration with pianist Choi Hoonrak, who is the director of the professional arts organization Ensemble In. The exhibition will present a multi-disciplinary art form that combines painting, installation, and sound, offering a resonant experience for various senses.
Meanwhile, the Chilgok Arts Council has continuously expanded the scope of local art through projects such as the 2021 public art project "Our Neighborhood Art Everyday Chilgok Picnic," the 2023 North Gyeongsang International Contemporary Art Festival "Saving Dabudong Art," and the 2025 North Gyeongsang Cultural Foundation Artworks Support Project.
This exhibition is expected to serve as a platform for proposing new possibilities for Chilgok's culture through complex attempts that encompass both region and art, as well as tradition and modernity.
