The Gumi City Local Food Direct Market in North Gyeongsang Province is holding an event to express gratitude to citizens and participating farmers on the occasion of its second anniversary.
The Gumi City Local Food Direct Market, which has turned two years old, is holding a discount event of up to 20%.
The Gumi Food Integrated Support Center (Chairman Kim Jangho) announced on June 3 that it will host a "Special Sale of Local Agricultural Products" customer appreciation event at the Geumosan branch for two days, from June 6 to June 7.
This event is being held to thank citizens who have consistently used the Local Food Direct Market, to promote the consumption of local agricultural products, and to raise awareness of the local food brand.
During the event, major local agricultural and livestock products such as Korean beef, Korean pork, wheat-based processed foods, eggs, watermelon, and melon will be sold at discounts of up to 20% by item. A variety of on-site events will also be available to encourage visitor participation.
In particular, the event venue is divided into an Event Zone, Experience Zone, and Promotion Zone, allowing citizens to directly see, hear, and experience the value of local agricultural products and the stories of their producers.
Since its opening in April 2023, the Gumi City Local Food Direct Market Geumosan branch has achieved cumulative sales of 9.8 billion KRW, more than 450 participating farms, 15,000 consumer members, and 500,000 cumulative visitors, establishing itself as a leading urban-rural win-win platform in Gumi.
The direct market operates under a structure that returns about 90% of sales directly to participating farms, earning high praise as a producer-centered public distribution model and serving as a key hub for realizing a "virtuous food cycle system."
Chairman Kim Jangho (Mayor of Gumi) stated, "The Local Food Direct Market is a representative space where citizens can trust and purchase local agricultural products, and it also serves as a channel to promote the excellence of local agriculture to visitors to Gumi. Going forward, we will continue to foster the Local Food Direct Market to achieve our goal of '1,000 farms with regular income.'"
Meanwhile, the Gumi Food Integrated Support Center has been focusing on citizen-participation marketing and revitalizing local agricultural product consumption through year-round events, starting with a New Year's popup store in January, followed by the "Korean Beef and Our Wheat" event in February, and now this second anniversary special sale.
