The National Police Agency announced on June 3 that a total of 614 emergency calls related to the 21st presidential election voting had been received through the 112 hotline.
As of 5 p.m. on this day, by type of report, there were 175 cases of voting interference or disturbances, 3 cases of assault, 11 cases of traffic inconvenience, and 425 cases classified as other (such as misunderstandings).
Emergency calls were continuously reported from polling stations nationwide due to incidents such as assaults and disturbances. The police were dispatched to the scenes to ensure that voting proceeded normally, and are investigating the individuals involved after booking them.
In Busan, at the outdoor area of the No. 1 polling station in Jung-dong, Haeundae-gu, a man in his 40s who was waiting to vote while smoking an electronic cigarette assaulted a man in his 30s who tried to stop him from smoking behind him.
In Jeju, at the Seogwang-dong Community Welfare Center polling station in Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo-si, a man in his 60s was arrested at the scene for assaulting and causing a disturbance, including pushing the chest of an election official in his 30s.
At a polling station in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province, a man in his 50s caused a disturbance after voting by swearing and pushing a desk while demanding additional ballot papers from an election official.
