Intensive Education on Cyber Gambling and Deepfakes
"Customized Lectures Tailored to Students' Perspectives"
Gumi Police Station in North Gyeongsang Province has launched an initiative to prevent digital crimes such as cyber gambling and deepfake targeting high school freshmen.
Gumi Police Station is giving a lecture to high school freshmen on the prevention of digital crimes such as cyber gambling and deepfake.
Gumi Police Station (Chief Kim Dongwook) announced on June 3 that it conducted an educational session on June 2 at Kumoh Technical High School for 152 first-year freshmen, focusing on the prevention of cyber crimes and school violence.
This program was organized to help freshmen, who are adapting to the new environment of high school, recognize the dangers of various digital crimes and learn how to protect themselves.
The training was conducted simultaneously in five classrooms, with two of the ten first-year classes grouped together in each room. Five School Police Officers (SPOs) entered each classroom to deliver intensive, customized lectures tailored to the students’ perspectives.
The SPOs focused on the realities and dangers of cyber gambling and deepfake crimes, which have been rapidly spreading among teenagers recently.
Regarding cyber gambling, they warned that "simple curiosity can lead to addiction, which may destroy not only academic performance but one's entire daily life." On the topic of deepfakes, they emphasized that "video manipulation using artificial intelligence is clearly a criminal act."
They also stressed the importance of ethical awareness and a sense of responsibility as digital citizens, encouraging students to foster a healthy digital culture.
Gumi Police Station and Kumoh Technical High School plan to continue building a robust school safety network by providing regular crime prevention education and sharing information with all students.
Kim Dongwook, Chief of Gumi Police Station, stated, "The middle of the first semester of the first year is a period when students are adapting to school life but can also be easily exposed to various temptations and conflicts," adding, "We will do our best to listen to voices from the field and create a healthy school culture."
