On June 3, the day of the 21st presidential election, multiple incidents of ballot paper damage occurred in Gwangju, prompting election authorities to launch an investigation.
According to the Gwangju City Election Commission, at around 9:15 a.m. that day, a resident in their 70s, identified as A, tore their ballot paper at the "Sansu 2-dong No. 1 Polling Station" set up at the Resource Recycling Center in Sansu 2-dong, Dong-gu.
After completing the voting process in the booth, A requested a replacement ballot from an election official, stating that they had made a mistake. When the request was denied, A proceeded to tear the ballot paper.
Earlier, at around 7:00 a.m. the same day, a woman in her 60s, identified as B, also damaged her ballot paper at the "Jisan 1-dong Polling Station" located in the Jisan 1-dong Administrative Welfare Center in Dong-gu, Gwangju.
B requested a replacement ballot from an election official but, after her request was denied, she damaged her ballot paper.
The Gwangju City Election Commission plans to investigate the exact circumstances of the ballot damage involving these individuals.
