On June 3, Hampyeong County in South Jeolla Province announced that it will provide support for pest and disease control in rice cultivation to proactively prevent crop damage caused by abnormal weather events and to ensure stable rice production.
The purpose of the project is to reduce the production cost burden on farmers by subsidizing the expenses required for rice pest and disease control, and to enable stable rice production by blocking the spread of pests and diseases at an early stage.
During the intensive control period from July to September, the county plans to allocate a project budget of 515 million won for two separate initiatives, covering a total rice cultivation area of 6,875 hectares, in order to subsidize the costs of outsourcing rice pest and disease control. Applications for rice pest and disease control support will be accepted until June 18.
In addition, the county will operate an on-site agricultural technical support team during the farming season through September, making every effort to monitor and control crop pests and diseases in response to climate change.
Moon Jeongmo, Director of the Hampyeong County Agricultural Technology Center, stated, "Timely pest and disease control is crucial, as the occurrence of pests and diseases increases due to heavy rainfall and hot, humid weather conditions in summer. We will actively respond on-site to minimize damage to farmers and support stable crop production."
