The Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH Corporation) announced on June 2 that it had conducted inspections of permanent rental housing facilities to prevent fires and damage from heavy rain and wind.
On May 30, SH Corporation President Hwang Sangha and the on-site inspection team visited a permanent rental housing complex located in Gangnam-gu to check various fire safety facilities and to inspect disaster prevention facilities in preparation for the rainy season.
The inspection team examined fire and disaster prevention facilities, including: the condition of drainage system dredging, equipment to prevent flooding in the mechanical room, whether fire doors were closed, the operation of automatic opening and closing devices on rooftop access doors, and the installation status of evacuation guidance lines.
This inspection was conducted in connection with the Seoul Metropolitan Government's "Measures to Prevent Fires and Reduce Casualties in Aging Apartment Buildings" and SH Corporation's "Comprehensive Fire Prevention Measures."
The inspection team also plans to tour and inspect permanent rental housing complexes in the Gangseo-gu and Nowon-gu areas, as well as to check the installation of disaster prevention facilities such as flood barriers in semi-basement purchased rental housing units to prevent flooding.
SH Corporation has completed the installation of automatic opening and closing devices for rooftop emergency doors and evacuation guidance lines in all rental apartments currently under its management. Starting in the second half of this year, the corporation also plans to sequentially implement follow-up measures, including the installation of kitchen gas timer cocks, replacement of outdated circuit breakers, support for fire safety supplies, and reinforcement of fire evacuation drills.
President Hwang stated, "Permanent rental housing is home to many vulnerable residents, such as the elderly and people with disabilities, so effective safety management is essential. We will work closely with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and City Council to create a residential environment where vulnerable groups can live with peace of mind, and we will strive to achieve comprehensive and seamless housing welfare."
