A Summer Night Festival Illuminated by 15,000 Candlelights
Suncheon City in South Jeolla Province (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced on June 2 that it will host Korea's largest outdoor "Candlelight Concert" at the Lake Garden of the East Gate of Suncheonman National Garden at 7:40 p.m. on June 6.
This event, held under the subtitle "Star Garden Night - Healing and Comfort," will feature approximately 15,000 candlelights illuminating the garden, creating a fantastic nighttime landscape. Accompanied by high-quality classical melodies, the concert aims to offer visitors a generous and moving midsummer night, as well as a space and time to enjoy a brief respite from their tiring daily lives.
On stage, the classical quintet "Ensemble Tones," consisting of piano, violin, viola, and cello, will present a 65-minute high-quality performance featuring classical masterpieces, movie soundtracks, and Studio Ghibli OSTs.
The harmony of beautiful melodies resonating in nature and the countless candles intricately arranged will complete the unique summer night atmosphere and sentiment found only at Suncheonman National Garden.
In line with this special nighttime performance, Suncheon City will extend the garden's evening operating hours. The usual closing time of 8:00 p.m. will be extended by two hours to 10:00 p.m. for this day only, while ticketing will proceed as usual until 7:00 p.m.
All visitors with admission tickets can enjoy the concert, which will be held in a picnic-style format without assigned seating. Families and couples are encouraged to bring mats and freely sit on the grass to enjoy the performance.
A city official stated, "As Korea's first national garden, Suncheonman National Garden will provide citizens with healing, comfort, inspiration, and leisurely relaxation through this high-quality nighttime cultural content, and will continue to expand the garden's social healing function." The official added, "We will continue to discover and develop events so that the national garden can become a place of liberation from the fatigue of daily life."
