Resolution Passed Urging Support for Companies Promoting Childbirth
Daejeon City Council convened the 287th 1st regular session on the 2nd, commencing an 18-day legislative schedule that will continue until the 19th.
During this regular session, the council will review and process a total of 91 agenda items, including 40 proposals initiated by council members, 46 submitted by the mayor, and 5 submitted by the superintendent of education. The council will also comprehensively examine the administration's policy implementation through municipal administration questions and the settlement of revenue and expenditure for the 2024 fiscal year.
At the plenary meeting held on this day, a resolution urging the amendment of the Restriction of Special Local Taxation Act to grant local tax reductions to companies promoting childbirth, spearheaded by council member Kim Youngsam, was adopted. The resolution calls for a clear legal basis for local tax reductions for family-friendly companies, enabling proactive support at the local government level.
Kim Seongwang, a member of the Special Committee on Industrial Complex Development, reported on the committee's activities over the past two years at the plenary session. The committee has focused on addressing key issues related to the development of industrial complexes, proposing policy alternatives, and working to establish a Daejeon-style industrial complex model.
During the five-minute free speech session, various policy suggestions and issues were raised. Council member Hwang Kyunga spoke on 'Priority Purchase of Products Manufactured by Severely Disabled Persons'; Song Hwalseop addressed 'The Relocation Project of Daejeon Prison and the Role of Daejeon City'; Kim Youngsam proposed 'Suggestions for Daejeon to Become a Leading Sports City'; Lee Hanyeong called for 'Improvement of Regulations Closely Related to Daily Life, Such as Rain Shelters in Aging Low-rise Residential Areas'; and Bang Jinyeong discussed 'Safety Measures for Personal Mobility Devices'.
Chairman Cho Wonhui stated, "In the first half of the year, Daejeon achieved tangible results in various fields, including transportation, industry, and culture," and added, "I urge the administration to thoroughly prepare so that major infrastructure projects such as the groundbreaking for Sikjangsan Station, the Yuseong Complex Terminal, and the Second Literature Center can proceed without delay in the second half of the year."
