According to the city on June 2, the 2025 Iksan Modern History and Culture Festival, organized by the Iksan Culture and Tourism Foundation, has been jointly planned by a steering committee formed with local cultural and arts organizations and institutions such as the Iksan Regional Child Center Association and the Living Culture and Arts Club Network.

The steering committee has held four meetings to thoroughly discuss ways to expand citizen participation, enhance program quality, and ensure safety management. As part of the West Inland Region Wide-Area Tourism Development Project, this year's festival is themed 'A Time Travel through Iksan's History.' The event will feature time-travel content that allows visitors to experience historical memories from the 1910s to the post-liberation era in alleys and on stages.

In particular, a mission-based experiential event titled 'Find the Lost Land Register!'?inspired by the history of rice exploitation by the Ikgok Water Control Association during the Japanese colonial period?is expected to be a highlight, allowing visitors to walk through alleys and experience historical sites firsthand.

In addition, a variety of programs are planned, including themed performances reflecting the eras from the 1910s to post-liberation, modern costume experiences, the musical 'Hero,' and a narrated concert of 'The Last Empress.'

A flash mob titled 'Dokdo is Our Land,' featuring youth participation, is also scheduled. This special event aims to help citizens remember the joy of liberation, share historical awareness, and foster empathy across generations.

The festival is expected to shine a new light on Iksan's modern and contemporary cultural assets, providing an opportunity for citizens to take the lead in experiencing and promoting the city's historical pride together.

Kim Saeman, CEO of the Iksan Culture and Tourism Foundation, said, "We hope many people will take interest in and participate in this event, where you can walk through Iksan's alleys and learn about modern history during the Memorial Day holiday. We will establish this as a participatory cultural event created and led by citizens."

Mayor Jung Heon-yul stated, "Anyone can easily and enjoyably experience Iksan's modern history content. I hope our valuable historical and cultural assets will become widely known, and that all citizens will become ambassadors for Iksan's history."

Citizens wishing to participate in the event can register in advance through the Iksan Culture and Tourism Foundation website. For more information, please contact the Tourism Marketing Team at the Iksan Culture and Tourism Foundation.
