Korean student ambassadors and host family parents who will welcome the American students also attended the ceremony, providing an opportunity for everyone to meet and interact.
This domestic training program is a return visit by students from the Tucson Unified School District, following the English language training program for Yeongyang County students in the United States in January 2025. Six American students are participating in this program.
Youth international exchanges between Korea and the United States began in 2015 through an agreement between Yeongyang County and the Tucson Unified School District. Every January, students from Yeongyang County visit Tucson for about four weeks for language training, while in May, students from Tucson visit Yeongyang County for one week. These exchanges aim to foster understanding of cultural differences, provide international experiences, and nurture global talent.
A total of six American students are participating in this domestic training program. They will join regular classes at two local middle schools, experience Korean culture through homestays, and explore local cultural sites in Yeongyang County.
Oh Dochang, Governor of Yeongyang County, said, "I sincerely welcome your visit to Yeongyang County, and I will do my best to strengthen the global capabilities of our local youth through continued exchanges."
Yeongyang County is continuously expanding not only overseas language training programs in the United States but also educational environment improvement projects and scholarship programs to provide local students with a better educational environment.
