Hanam City Selected for "Gyeonggi AI Innovation Cluster" Project
Full-Scale Transition to an AI-Based Innovation City
Hanam City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Hyunjae) has been selected as the final site for the "2025 AI Innovation Cluster Establishment" project, organized by Gyeonggi Province, signaling the city's full-scale transition into an AI-based innovation city.
According to Hanam City on June 2, the city was ultimately chosen due to its excellent transportation accessibility in the Seoul metropolitan area, the nation's highest rate of young population influx, and its "Hanam-style AI Innovation City Development Strategy" for future industrial transformation, all of which received high marks.
In particular, during the on-site evaluation, Mayor Lee Hyunjae emphasized that, based on Hanam City's vision and feasibility, the city will emerge as a central hub for the AI industry ecosystem where AI innovation companies and young talent can grow together.
With this selection, Hanam City plans to accelerate urban innovation centered on the AI industry and further develop a concrete blueprint for a sustainable future city.
In addition, the "Gyeonggi AI Innovation Cluster Establishment Project" will be carried out in three phases.
The first phase involves creating startup spaces; the second phase focuses on building an ecosystem foundation through AI education, technology commercialization, networking, overseas expansion and international exchanges, and R&D support; the third phase aims to establish an integrated AI support center by advancing AI transformation in key industrial sectors.
Through this project, Hanam City will establish online-offline integrated workspaces equipped with smart office environments, and will link global AI startup programs as well as support projects for industrial AI transformation (AI Transformation, AX).
Based on these efforts, Hanam City plans to generate synergy by integrating AI technology into the region's competitive industrial sectors, accelerate the development of startup growth infrastructure, and speed up the activation of the AI ecosystem.
Mayor Lee Hyunjae stated, "This selection is a turning point that will change the future of Hanam City and marks the beginning of elevating the city's competitiveness to a new level," adding, "Through AI, we will improve the quality of life for our citizens, create jobs, and build a successful model for an AI industrial city."
Meanwhile, following its selection for the innovation cluster project, Hanam City plans to establish a "Hanam-style AI specialization strategy" tailored to the region's industrial structure and characteristics, and will accelerate its leap toward a smart future city that citizens can truly experience by fostering AI talent, innovating public services, and advancing administrative systems.
