A fire broke out at Suraksan Mountain in Nowon-gu, Seoul, at 8:38 p.m. on June 1.

The fire authorities mobilized 30 vehicles and 109 personnel to extinguish the fire, and managed to bring the main blaze under control at 9:52 p.m., approximately 70 minutes after the outbreak.


No casualties have been reported so far, and authorities are continuing to check for additional damage while clearing remaining embers.


The fire authorities plan to investigate the extent of the damage and the exact cause of the fire once the situation is fully under control.


Nowon-gu announced through a safety text message after the fire broke out that "a wildfire has occurred behind the Suraksan Sports Center in Sanggye-dong" and advised nearby residents to keep their windows closed and refrain from approaching the mountain area.
