395 Billion Won Increase Over Main Budget
Comprehensive Fiscal Investment in Daily Inconvenience Relief, Transportation, Agriculture and Livestock, and Disaster Prevention
Mungyeong City in North Gyeongsang Province has submitted its first supplementary budget proposal for 2025 to the city council, totaling 1.0745 trillion won.
This supplementary budget, which has increased by 39.5 billion won (3.82%) compared to this year’s original budget, is characterized by its focus on expanding citizen-oriented projects and addressing key local issues.
Through this budget, the city has announced plans for comprehensive fiscal investment, including the expansion of transportation and tourism infrastructure following the opening of the KTX, strengthening the competitiveness of the agricultural and livestock industries, and disaster prevention.
Shin Hyun-guk, Mayor of Mungyeong, stated, "This supplementary budget continues the main budget’s direction of fulfilling promises to citizens and securing future growth engines, while also placing emphasis on alleviating practical inconveniences in daily life." He added, "With a strategy of selection and concentration, we will inject new vitality into the local economy."
◆ Expansion of Citizen-Oriented Projects
The city has actively reflected suggestions raised during citizen communication meetings, allocating significant funds to citizen-focused projects, including: the creation of park golf courses in each town and township (1.1 billion won), development of remote areas and long-standing projects (3.9 billion won), support for the repair and equipment of senior centers (700 million won), joint pest control (130 million won), and modernization of greenhouse facilities (100 million won).
◆ Expansion of KTX-Linked Tourism and Transportation Infrastructure
The supplementary budget includes major allocations for expanding tourism infrastructure, such as: construction of the Dansan Tunnel (5 billion won), detailed design for the Mungyeong Saejae access road (250 million won), and support for attracting national and international sports events (1.8 billion won).
Notably, the budget also includes projects to expand transportation welfare, such as making city buses completely free of charge (500 million won) and subsidizing public taxi fares (800 million won). The city expects these measures to improve mobility within the region and stimulate consumption by attracting more tourists.
◆ Intensive Investment in Agriculture and Livestock... Fostering the Gamhong Apple and Yakdol Brands
In the agricultural sector, the budget includes: support for crop disaster insurance premiums (1.65 billion won), establishment of Gamhong apple orchards (500 million won), incentives for shipping Yakdol pork and Korean beef (90 million won), support for village-type joint composting facilities (110 million won), construction of dormitories for agricultural workers (2.25 billion won), and development of storage technology for Gamhong apples (180 million won).
The city plans to further enhance the brand competitiveness of its representative local specialties, Gamhong apples and Yakdol livestock products.
◆ Strengthened Disaster Prevention and Support for Small Businesses
In the area of disaster prevention, the budget includes: river management and maintenance (3.2 billion won) and improvement of areas at risk of natural disasters (1 billion won), strengthening the city’s proactive response system to heavy rainfall and other summer disasters.
To revitalize the local economy, the budget also includes: contributions to the Gyeongbuk Credit Guarantee Foundation (300 million won), operation of local gift certificates (110 million won), interest subsidies for small business owners (140 million won), and interest subsidies for working capital loans for small and medium-sized enterprises (80 million won).
Meanwhile, this supplementary budget proposal will be finalized following deliberation at the 285th regular session of the Mungyeong City Council, scheduled to open on June 9.
