On May 30, Jeong Cheolwon, the mayor of Damyang County in South Jeolla Province, and Choi Youngil, the mayor of Sunchang County in North Jeolla Province, made donations to each other's regions to promote the Hometown Love Donation Program, reaffirming the spirit of cooperation between the two areas. The donation ceremony, held that morning at Damyang County Office, was attended by the mayors and public officials from both local governments, who shared warm messages of support and solidarity for their communities.
The two regions have achieved various results through cross-regional collaboration, such as dismantling the cutoff wall to resolve the water shortage at Damyang Lake. In addition, together with Gokseong and Gurye counties, they have formed the Gugok-Sundam Longevity Belt Administrative Council to jointly address issues such as population aging and senior welfare.
At this year's regular meeting of the Gugok-Sundam Council, they discussed operating cultural and sports programs for elderly residents, introducing early dementia prediction services, and expanding senior welfare policies. They are also jointly implementing a variety of projects, including sports events for seniors and celebrations for centenarians.
Jeong Cheolwon, the mayor of Damyang County, stated, "I hope this mutual donation will widely promote the purpose of the Hometown Love Donation Program and serve as an opportunity to reaffirm the value of regional coexistence. Going forward, as neighboring local governments sharing the same living sphere, we will continue to develop practical models of cooperation with Sunchang County."
