The Korea Island Promotion Agency announced on May 29 that, together with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, it has officially launched the "Islands You Want to Visit" website.
The agency explained that it has selected 88 islands for the "2025 Islands You Want to Visit" initiative, aiming to promote tourism in island regions and support the sustainable development of these areas.
By region, the selections include: 17 in Incheon, 1 in Gyeonggi, 6 in Chungnam, 7 in Jeonbuk, 37 in Jeonnam, 2 in Gyeongbuk, 14 in Gyeongnam, and 4 in Jeju. Jeonnam, which has the highest number of designated islands, includes Wando with 11 islands?the most among all areas?where this year's Island Day event will be held. Other included islands are Bogildo, Cheongsando, Soando, Geumdangdo, Nohwado, and Gogeumdo.
The website provides a wide range of information, including each island's main tourist attractions, directions (transportation and travel time), weather, accommodation, convenience and major facilities, as well as events and festivals.
In addition, visitor events are being held for these islands. Until August 24, two events will take place over 88 days: the "WalkOn" app challenge for island visit verification, and a personal SNS island visit verification event.
In particular, the GPS-based "WalkOn" stamp challenge allows visitors to collect one stamp for each island visited, with a total of 88 stamps available. Various prizes will be awarded based on rankings.
A representative from the Korea Island Promotion Agency stated, "We will continue to update and enhance the 'Islands You Want to Visit' website to showcase the limitless potential of islands to the public and do our best to revitalize island communities."
Meanwhile, the "Island Day" event, now in its sixth year, is scheduled to take place from August 7 to August 10 in Wando, Jeonnam, under the theme of "Healing Islands."
