Following the successful 1st Science Imagination Children's Art Contest held last year, GIST organized the 2nd contest to further promote the values of sharing and regional coexistence. The event drew significant interest and participation from the local community. On the day of the contest, about 400 people, including the families of participants, visited the GIST campus. The children settled in various spots across the campus and, under the slogan "Draw the Universe," freely expressed their imagination on the theme of space and envisioned the future landscape of GIST on A3-sized drawing paper provided on the day.
As part of the art contest's related programs, the GIST student club "Planet Exploration Research Institute" presented a rocket engine test ignition, offering a special attraction. In addition, Professor Kim Hyungrok of the Department of Environmental and Energy Engineering delivered a meaningful lecture on the theme "Earth's Water Cycle Seen from Space."
Choi Sunim, Art Director of Oryong Art Hall and a member of the judging panel, commented, "The children's works not only showcased their imagination but also reflected their interest in science and creative interpretations. The depictions of the universe and the future of GIST, each drawn from a unique perspective, were truly impressive. I believe this contest provided a valuable opportunity for children to naturally experience the intersection of art and science."
Meanwhile, starting from April 28, GIST recruited participants nationwide for this contest on a first-come, first-served basis through its website and QR codes on posters. The high level of interest was evident as more than 200 applicants, including kindergarteners and elementary school students, registered, and applications closed just two days after opening.
