Interview Survey Covering 19 Areas Including Smoking, Alcohol Consumption, and Diseases
Basic Data for Health Policy... "Please Cooperate with In-Person Surveys"
On May 29, the Gwangju city government announced that, in cooperation with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, five district health centers, and Chosun University, it will conduct the "2025 Community Health Survey" until July 31.
The "Community Health Survey" is a nationally approved statistical survey that has been conducted annually since 2008 across the country to secure foundational data for establishing local healthcare plans. The project aims to identify citizens' health behaviors and health status in order to provide evidence necessary for formulating region-specific health policies.
This year's survey will target approximately 4,500 adults aged 19 and older in the Gwangju area, with 500 participants from each district. Trained surveyors will visit households and conduct one-on-one interviews using tablet PCs.
The survey items include: ▲ health status such as smoking, alcohol consumption, physical activity, and dietary habits; ▲ prevalence and management of chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes; ▲ experiences of accidents and intoxication; ▲ and an overall assessment of residents' quality of life and healthcare utilization.
For this survey, surveyors were selected in March, and group and field training sessions were held in April and May. During the survey period, regular inspections and meetings will be held to share information on difficulties and issues encountered during the survey, improve any problems, and monitor survey data.
The interviews will be conducted using electronic questionnaires on tablet PCs and will be carried out by professional surveyors affiliated with the health centers who have completed training. Surveyors will always wear their surveyor ID cards, which bear the seal of the local health center director, and will be dressed in designated attire during the survey.
Citizens who participate in the survey will receive a small gift in appreciation, and some respondents will receive follow-up calls to check surveyor kindness and confirm their responses. The results of this survey will be announced in December, and the full results will be available in February 2026 on the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency's "Community Health Survey" website.
Bae Kang-suk, head of the Health and Hygiene Division, emphasized, "The Community Health Survey is the most fundamental and important survey for accurately identifying citizens' health status and establishing effective health policies. We kindly ask for the active participation and cooperation of all citizens when surveyors visit."
