Sharing Achievements of the Chungnam Public Design Academy
Residents Identify Local Issues and Seek Solutions through Design
On May 28, the Chungnam Research Institute held a performance-sharing event for the '2025 Chungnam Public Design Academy' at the Chungnam Library, where the achievements of resident-led public design activities were shared.
According to the institute on May 29, the academy is a resident participation program in which Chungnam residents identify local issues and seek solutions through design.
The program is drawing attention for establishing a differentiated public design model unique to Chungnam.
Approximately 60 residents from Baebang-eup in Asan, Noseong-myeon in Nonsan, and Mundang-ri in Hongseong participated in this academy.
From April, over a two-month period, they took part in a total of six public design education sessions and workshops, deepening their understanding of the region, observing problems from a public perspective, and developing concrete ideas for solutions.
During the performance-sharing event, participants from each region presented their identified issues and proposed solutions, received practical consulting from experts, and an award ceremony was held for outstanding participants.
Director Jeon Heekyung stated, "Public design is no longer the exclusive domain of experts. It is a tool for residents to directly participate, communicate, and transform their communities," and added, "This academy is an innovative model for 'Chungnam-style public design governance.' I hope it leads to strengthening community capabilities and expanding cooperative networks."
Meanwhile, the Chungnam Research Institute plans to further develop the program based on this academy's achievements, by linking with national and provincial funding contests, expanding promotion to other regions, and introducing advanced education.
