Gwangyang City Enhances Project Completion through On-site Communication

Jung Inhwa Visits Four Key Project Sites Including Bicycle Path Area

Gwangyang City, South Jeolla Province (Mayor Jung Inhwa), announced on the 28th that it operated the '2nd On-site Communication Day in May' on the 27th and visited major project sites to check their progress.

On this day, Mayor Jung Inhwa visited the following sites in order: the site for the requested repair of the passage culvert in Uiam Village, Okgok-myeon; the site for improvements to the bicycle path environment related to the introduction of public electric bicycles; the site of the Namdo Landscape Creation Project in Jungma-dong; and the site of the Urban Wind Path Forest (pedestrian-only road) creation project.

The first site visited, the 'Uiam Village Passage Culvert Repair Request Site' in Okgok-myeon, is a location where the road used by residents as a passage for farming becomes flooded during heavy rainfall, causing inconvenience for passage.

After inspecting the site, Mayor Jung instructed, "Review drainage measures from multiple perspectives to prevent flood damage, actively make proposals to Jeollanam-do, which is responsible for management, and resolve inconveniences for vehicles and agricultural machinery by improving the road surface level differences."

The second site visited was the location for improvements to the bicycle path environment related to the introduction of public electric bicycles. Last October, the city inspected the site for the introduction of public electric bicycles and investigated the connectivity of bicycle paths in the residential areas of Jungma-dong and Seonghwang-dong.

During this inspection, Mayor Jung focused on sections with interrupted pedestrian and bicycle paths and sections with narrow widths, especially from the Wow District toward City Hall (south of the Waterworks Department).

Mayor Jung stated, "Conduct a comprehensive survey to ensure that the width standards for bicycle paths are met so that they can be connected to future hydrogen mobility and public electric bicycle use," and added, "When constructing roads in the future, consider the locations of streetlights and traffic signs so that the width standards for bicycle paths and sidewalks can be met."

The third site visited was the Namdo Landscape Creation Project site in Jungma-dong. Gwangyang City was selected for the '2024 Namdo Landscape Creation Project' hosted by Jeollanam-do, and is investing a total project cost of 1 billion KRW (300 million KRW from the province and 700 million KRW from the city) to carry out the project in the area of Jungma 23 Square (1642 Jung-dong).

After thoroughly inspecting the location and size of green spaces, outdoor stage maintenance, sound system installation plans, and the status of public facility maintenance, Mayor Jung instructed that sufficient green space be secured near the outdoor stage and that the optimal location for the fountain installation be reviewed. He also requested, "Ensure that each facility, including the fountain, clean house, and performance hall waiting area, is designed with aesthetic and artistic value."

The final site visited was the Urban Wind Path Forest (pedestrian-only road) creation project, which was revisited for a detailed inspection following a previous visit in February.

Mayor Jung stated, "Except for the site with the repair request, all the sites visited today are ones I have visited before," and added, "We will continue to closely monitor the progress of projects from the beginning through the middle to the completion stage through ongoing on-site inspections and communication, thereby enhancing the completeness of each project."

Meanwhile, the city operates the 'On-site Communication Day' every month, visiting major project sites and sites related to citizens' livelihoods to check progress and implement field-oriented administration that reflects citizens' voices in municipal policies.
