The Department of Nursing at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology operates a curriculum that combines theoretical learning at school with practical training in both community and clinical settings.
Recently, as the scope of community health has expanded, health education is being conducted in various everyday environments. For example, health education on chronic disease management and appropriate responses in emergency situations has been provided to seniors at local senior centers. In addition, at the Dahamkke Dolbom Center, elementary school students have received health, nutrition, and environmental education on a variety of themes.
Since 2011, the Department of Nursing has collaborated with the Busanjin-gu Public Health Center to visit local senior centers. Beginning in 2024, it has also partnered with Haebaragi Social Cooperative (Chairman Jung Shinmo) to regularly visit and provide health education at Yangjeong Dahamkke Dolbom Center in Busanjin-gu (Director Choi Eunju) and Yeonje-gu Dahamkke Dolbom Center Happy Child Dream Center (Director An Boeun).
Choi Eunju, Director of Yangjeong Dahamkke Dolbom Center in Busanjin-gu, stated that during the 16-week health education program with students from the Department of Nursing at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology, "Through collaboration with the Department of Nursing, we implemented a variety of topics on disease prevention, health management, and safety for children using diverse educational methods such as role play, demonstrations, and lectures. This allowed children to easily understand and apply what they learned in their daily lives."
A nursing student who participated in the health education commented, "At times, I was flustered by the children's unexpected reactions, but thanks to the enthusiastic and vocal participation of the young students, I was able to conduct the health education successfully. It was a valuable experience that allowed me to grow by applying what I had learned in theory directly in the field."
Professor Lee Sangjoo of the Department of Nursing at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology stated, "We will continue to explore various activities through which the university and nursing students can contribute to the health promotion of local community residents. We will also strive to collaborate with community organizations to implement field-oriented, customized activities."
Closely connected to the local community, the Department of Nursing at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology provides students not only with theoretical learning but also with practical training opportunities, enabling them to develop their practical competencies.
