Gwangju Dongbu Fire Station announced on May 28 that it had conducted an unannounced emergency rescue control team drill for the second quarter of this year at the Dong-gu Multipurpose Gymnasium within its jurisdiction, aiming to strengthen disaster response capabilities.
The drill, held on May 27, was a no-script exercise to prepare for disaster situations, with participation from Gwangju Dongbu Fire Station and eight other emergency rescue support agencies. The training assumed the occurrence of a large-scale fire to enhance the efficient response capabilities of the emergency rescue control team and to review the cooperation system among related agencies.
The emergency rescue control team is a temporary organization that commands life-saving, first aid, and all other necessary measures performed by emergency rescue agencies and support organizations, either when there is a significant risk of disaster or when a disaster occurs, in order to protect the lives, physical safety, and property of the public.
The main components of the drill included: activation of the Dong-gu emergency rescue control team in response to a large-scale fire; dissemination of information using the disaster safety communication network (PS-LTE); cooperation and support among each emergency rescue support agency; emergency medical response for casualties; and recovery and restoration activities.
Chief Moon Heejun stated, "This drill provided an opportunity to review the step-by-step procedures of the emergency rescue control team and the cooperation system with related agencies," adding, "We will continue to conduct realistic drills to establish an immediate response posture in the event of a disaster and do our utmost to protect the lives and property of citizens."
