Seized Laptop May Hold the Key to 'Geonjin Bopsa and First Lady Kim' Connection
Prosecutors investigating allegations that First Lady Kim Keonhee received a luxury Chanel bag from Jeonseongbae, also known as 'Geonjin Bopsa,' have secured the laptop of Yoo Kyungok, the former presidential secretary who served as her aide at the time, and have begun a full-scale analysis.
According to the prosecution on May 27, the Virtual Asset Crime Joint Investigation Unit of the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office conducted a search and seizure at Yoo's residence on April 30, obtaining the laptop along with related documents. The investigation team is focusing on the possibility that internal records or conversations exchanged during the process of delivering the bag to Kim may remain on the laptop.
Yoo was a key aide who accompanied the presidential couple on external engagements and was one of the individuals who worked most closely with Kim. Accordingly, the investigation team is conducting a detailed analysis of electronic documents, emails, and messenger records on the laptop.
Prosecutors also confirmed that the Chanel box seized during the search was a cosmetics storage box, not the luxury bag in question. However, they are focusing on securing additional physical evidence regarding whether the bag was delivered and received.
In relation to this investigation, it is known that the prosecution has reinforced its team by increasing the number of investigators. This move is interpreted as an intention to intensify the investigation, given that the allegations could potentially spread to key figures within the ruling party.
Meanwhile, the case is also linked to allegations of solicitation involving the Unification Church. Media reports have revealed that an individual identified as Yoon, associated with the Unification Church, provided expensive luxury gifts and conveyed petitions to Kim's side, leading to an expansion of the investigation's scope. Prosecutors plan to focus their investigative efforts on confirming direct links to Kim, along with summoning additional related individuals for questioning in the near future.
