Hanam City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Hyunjae) announced on May 27 that, following its first-place win in the nationwide "Support Our Neighborhood Sanitation Workers Event" hosted by BGF Retail on May 26, a prize-giving ceremony for Hanam City environmental officers was held at the waste transfer station.

This event was a customer participation campaign organized by CU to support and express gratitude to sanitation workers across the country who work tirelessly from early morning hours. From April 23 to May 10, for 18 days, any citizen could participate through the Pocket CU app, and numerous messages of support were collected from all over the country.
As a result, Hanam City achieved the remarkable feat of ranking first nationwide in the number of support messages. More citizens participated in supporting Hanam City than in Jungnang District in Seoul and Gimhae City in South Gyeongsang Province, expressing their gratitude to environmental officers, the closest heroes in daily life.
At the prize-giving ceremony, a snack truck worth 1 million won, prepared by CU, visited the site, and along with sweet snacks, eight cleaning service vouchers (each worth 100,000 won) were also presented. The event, which included brief interviews and commemorative photos, was filled with smiles and a warm atmosphere.
Jung Hyundol, head of the Hanam City Environmental Officers' Union, said, "I am deeply grateful that citizens have not forgotten and have supported the hard work of environmental officers who strive to keep every corner of Hanam City clean. As this first-place award is thanks to the warm hearts of our citizens, we will continue to do our best to make Hanam a pleasant and livable city."
Meanwhile, the Hanam City Environmental Officers' Union was established in 1995 and has continuously worked to enhance the public value and significance of sanitation work. Notably, in October 2024, Hanam City amended its "Hanam City Public Officials Management Regulations" to officially change the title from "sanitation worker" to "environmental officer." This meaningful change is regarded as an effort to improve public perception of cleaning labor and to enhance the pride of environmental officers.
Hanam City plans to continue recognizing the dedication of environmental officers who work quietly in the closest aspects of citizens' daily lives, and to create an urban environment where support and consideration are extended through various initiatives.
