Seeking Media Art to Illuminate Myeongdong: Art Korea Lab Recruits Super Testbed Participants Myeongdong Shinsegae Department Store Shinsegae Square Exhibition. Arts Management Support Center

Art Korea Lab is a comprehensive support platform for artists and art companies, established in October 2023 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Arts Management Support Center. It supports the entire cycle of convergence art activities, from art-technology-based creation and production experiments to demonstrations, distribution, start-up, and growth. The Super Testbed, Art Korea Lab's flagship convergence art support program, is an all-in-one program that provides artists with tailored technology education, opportunities for creative and production experiments, and exhibition (demonstration) opportunities.

This call for entries is being carried out in collaboration with Myeongdong Square, under the jurisdiction of Jung-gu Office, Seoul. The completed works of the selected artists will be showcased to the public through the large-scale media wall at Shinsegae Square in Myeongdong Shinsegae Department Store for approximately two months, from September to November.

The competition themes are three topics related to Jung-gu, Seoul: Admiral Yi Sun-sin, Myeongdong, and Namsan. Three artists will be selected for each theme, for a total of nine artists. Applicants may choose one of the three designated themes to apply for, and any artist (individual) with understanding and capabilities in media art technologies optimized for large screens, such as 3D stereoscopic video and anamorphic techniques, is eligible to apply.

Selected artists will receive media art-based technology education and expert mentoring, access to a shared creative space and equipment, a certain amount of activity expenses for project execution, and the opportunity to exhibit their work on the Myeongdong Shinsegae Square media wall.

More details about the call for entries can be found in the "Notices" section on the websites of the Arts Management Support Center and Art Korea Lab.

A representative from the Arts Management Support Center stated, "We hope that this Super Testbed joint project course will provide artists with an opportunity to communicate with citizens through art in the heart of the city and serve as a catalyst for the distribution of new art works that integrate technology."
