Korea Startup Promotion Agency to Address Challenges Faced by Startups in Overseas Expansion

The Korea Startup Promotion Agency announced on the 27th that it will hold the "Startup Global Outbound (Overseas Expansion) Policy Seminar."

Korea Startup Promotion Agency to Address Challenges Faced by Startups in Overseas Expansion

This seminar, jointly sponsored by the Korea Startup Promotion Agency, the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency, and Korea Venture Investment Corp., will take place on the 28th at 2:00 p.m. on the third floor of the IFC in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul.


The event is hosted by the Korea Association of Venture Startups and co-organized by the Korea Venture Capital Association, the Korea Business Angels Association, the Council of Creative Economy Innovation Centers, the Korea Startup Forum, and Pan Ventures Korea. Around 200 participants, including startup founders, investors, officials from related organizations, and experts, are expected to attend.


During the seminar, participants will diagnose the main challenges faced by startups during the overseas expansion process and discuss effective policy support strategies and ways to strengthen institutional foundations amid a changing external environment. Key topics include: ▲Challenges faced by domestic startups due to the strengthening of protectionism ▲Policy support strategies for overseas expansion in response to changes in the external environment ▲Investment management and exit strategies for startups expanding overseas ▲Support measures for startups entering overseas markets.


Yang Junseok, a professor at Catholic University, will deliver a keynote presentation on "Challenges and Support Strategies for Startups amid the Spread of Protectionism," covering global response strategies based on analysis of country- and industry-specific cases of damage and regulatory trends. He will be followed by Kim Juniik, a professor at Konkuk University, who will present on "Support Measures for Startup Global Expansion," introducing step-by-step support plans for startups' overseas expansion, including market research, legal and certification consulting, partner matching, and regulatory restructuring.


In the subsequent policy discussion, Kang Youngjae, chairman of the Council of Creative Economy Innovation Centers, will serve as moderator. Panelists will include Professor Yang from Catholic University, Professor Kim from Konkuk University, Lee Changhyeong, director of the Korea Startup Promotion Agency, and Lee Changmin, head of Korea Venture Investment Corp. They will engage in an in-depth discussion on practical policy alternatives and effective support measures.


Yoo Jongpil, president of the Korea Startup Promotion Agency, stated, "Solving institutional problems is crucial for the successful overseas expansion of startups," and added, "We hope this seminar will serve as a cornerstone for establishing actionable strategies and strengthening institutional foundations to facilitate startups' overseas expansion."
