Launch of Government-wide Consultative Body
for Strengthening Compensation for Public Officials
A government consultative body has been launched to strengthen the compensation system for public officials who suffer disasters while dedicating themselves to the nation, such as fighting wildfires, apprehending criminals, and carrying out disease control.
The Ministry of Personnel Management and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs announced on May 27 that they have officially launched the "National Compensation Policy Research Council" at the Government Complex Sejong and held its first meeting.
This research council is the first regular government-level consultative body aimed at ensuring prompt and substantial compensation and recognition for public officials who are injured, die, or contract illnesses in the line of duty. The meeting was attended by the Ministry of Personnel Management, the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, the Ministry of National Defense, and the Ministry of Employment and Labor.
Going forward, the Ministry of Personnel Management and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs plan to hold regular quarterly meetings (in June, September, and November) to continuously share policy issues. They will also visit policy sites such as the Central Veterans Hospital's physical examination center and major disaster compensation application agencies from time to time to hold discussion sessions.
Kim Jungyeon, Director of Disaster Compensation Policy at the Ministry of Personnel Management, stated, "We will continue to advance a field-oriented compensation system so that public officials can perform their duties with confidence and actively, even in the face of disaster risks."
