Jang Geumyong, Acting Mayor of Changwon Special City, visited Changwon Indoor Swimming Pool to encourage athletes participating in the 54th National Youth Sports Festival and observed the swimming competition on site.

The National Youth Sports Festival, known as the "gateway for future sports talent," is the largest youth sports event in South Korea. This year, it is being held across Gyeongsangnam-do for four days from May 24 to May 27, 2025.


Approximately 18,000 athletes and officials from across the country are participating in this year's festival. In Changwon, competitions are being held in swimming, shooting, tennis, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, and other sports.


On May 26, Jang encouraged the athletes participating in the swimming competition and had a meeting with officials from the Swimming Federation to discuss ways to revitalize local sports. He also expressed his gratitude to the volunteers and staff supporting the event.


During the festival, Changwon City is providing visitors from all over the country with information about the city's main tourist attractions, recommended restaurants, and accommodations. The city is also focusing on promoting the local economy and raising awareness of Changwon's status as a sports city.


Jang Geumyong, Acting Mayor of Changwon Special City, said, "I hope that the athletes participating in the National Youth Sports Festival will grow further through this experience," and added, "I expect that Changwon's excellent sports infrastructure will become widely known across the country, and that this will be an opportunity for citizens to come together and communicate as one through sports."
