A 2km Section from Doksan Pedestrian Bridge to Kia Bridge Along Anyangcheon Transformed into "Rose Garden" and "Climate Response Urban Forest"
Enjoy Nature While Walking the Flower Path Filled with Seasonal Roses and Fragrant Scents Along the Anyangcheon Embankment
Geumcheon-gu (District Mayor Yoo Seonghun) announced that it has transformed a 2km section along Anyangcheon, from Doksan Pedestrian Bridge to Kia Bridge, by creating a "Rose Garden" and a "Climate Response Urban Forest," providing residents with a green healing space where they can experience nature and relax.
The district ranks 24th out of 25 Seoul districts in terms of administrative area, making it one of the smallest. Its living area park space is also among the lowest, resulting in a lack of green spaces. In response, the district has continuously worked to improve the urban environment and expand leisure spaces where residents can enjoy nature up close.
Starting with the Geumcheon Hannae Rose Garden in 2019, the district has gradually created a riverside flower path. Over approximately five years, it has completed a rose garden spanning a total length of 2km and covering 58,000 square meters.
Currently, the rose garden is home to more than 150,000 rose bushes of 68 varieties. Every May, the roses bloom in vibrant colors, creating a spectacular sight. Walking along the well-maintained paths, residents can fully appreciate the beauty of the season accompanied by the subtle fragrance of roses.
A district official stated, "The area near the Seohaean Expressway and Subway Line 1 tracks had long remained a bleak, gray space. Through this project, we have newly created a green area where people can experience nature. We hope many residents will enjoy leisurely walks and relaxing moments here."
In addition, the district was selected for the "Climate Response Urban Forest Creation Project," organized by the Korea Forest Service and Seoul Metropolitan Government, and has simultaneously promoted the creation of an urban forest. A total of 1,469 trees with high fine dust reduction effects, including Skyrocket Juniper, Emerald Green, and Blue Angel, were planted.
The urban forest is expected to absorb and block ultrafine dust generated from the railway and expressway, thereby protecting residents' health and greatly improving the surrounding living environment.
Yoo Seonghun, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, "The riverside flower path along Anyangcheon in Geumcheon-gu, stretching about 2km, has been reborn as a space where people can experience relaxation and emotion within the city. We will continue to expand resident-centered green spaces to respond to climate change and create a sustainable urban environment."
