Bumin Hospital Sponsors the 4th Robot Artificial Joint Surgery Symposium

First-Ever Live Broadcast of Robotic Hip Joint Surgery in Korea
Expanding to a Wide Range of Fields Including Surgical Assistant Robots and Rehabilitation Robots

Bumin Hospital will sponsor the 4th Robot Artificial Joint Surgery Symposium, which will be held on May 31, 2025, at Halla Hall, Dragon City in Yongsan, Seoul.

This symposium is organized by the Korean Society of Orthopedic Computer Surgery and will bring together orthopedic experts from around the world, including the United States, Japan, India, and Singapore, to share the latest technologies and clinical cases in the field of robot artificial joint surgery.

The symposium will consist of a total of five sessions and nineteen lectures. In particular, the "Live Surgery" session, in which Seoul Bumin Hospital Director Ha Yongchan will perform the nation's first live broadcast of a hip joint robot surgery, is drawing significant attention.

The surgery will be broadcast in real time by connecting the operating room at Seoul Bumin Hospital with the event venue in Yongsan, allowing participants to directly verify the precision and safety of the procedure through real-time Q&A.

Director Ha Yongchan stated, "The greatest strength of robotic hip joint surgery is its surgical accuracy," adding, "It allows the length of both legs to be matched to 0 mm and enables precise adjustment of the leg axis." He further explained, "Robot artificial joint surgery reduces the learning curve for physicians and helps even beginners achieve a certain level of results."

The symposium will feature renowned experts in the field of hip joint robot surgery, including Cynthia Kallenberg from HSS Hospital in the United States, Ryuichi Sato from Kanagawa Rehabilitation Hospital in Japan, Professor Kim Hongseok from Seoul National University College of Medicine, and Professor Hwang Jiho from Hallym University College of Medicine, who will share their clinical experience and surgical trends.

Director Ha also commented on the knee field, stating, "Robot artificial joint surgery allows for the design of patient-specific surgical plans through preoperative simulation and secures accurate cutting surfaces, thereby increasing the accuracy of implant placement."

Lee Wooseok, President of the Korean Society of Orthopedic Computer Surgery, emphasized, "This symposium is a meaningful opportunity to look into the future of next-generation robotic surgery that integrates advanced technologies such as AI, augmented reality, and 3D printing," and added, "The advancement of robot artificial joint surgery will bring about innovative changes not only in the operating room but also in the patient's recovery environment."

Robot artificial joint surgery is expanding beyond the knee and hip joints to various areas such as the spine, and the adoption of rehabilitation robots to support postoperative recovery is also accelerating. In the future, it is expected that the era of "Assistant Robots," which can go beyond simple assistance to take on the roles of residents or PA nurses, will arrive.
