Solar Power Generation in Idle Rental Housing Spaces... Business Agreement Signed by Daegu Urban Development Corporation and Korea Energy Agency

Daegu Urban Development Corporation (President Myungseop Jeong) announced on May 22 that it had signed a business agreement with the Korea Energy Agency Daegu-Gyeongbuk Headquarters, NuguNae Sunlight Power, and Dalgu-Bul Sunlight Power Cooperative to expand the establishment of the Daegu-style Shared Sunlight Power Plant, utilizing idle spaces in rental housing.

This agreement is part of a public-private collaboration to achieve carbon neutrality and implement ESG management. It aims to expand the supply of renewable energy in the region and to improve energy welfare for vulnerable groups by utilizing power generation profits.

The 'Shared Sunlight Power Plant' project involves installing solar power facilities on idle land owned by the corporation's purchased rental housing, using funds invested by citizens. The electricity generated is sold, and a portion of the profits is used to reduce housing costs for rental housing residents, thereby returning benefits to the local community.

According to the agreement, Daegu Urban Development Corporation will provide idle spaces in rental housing and promote residential welfare projects. The Korea Energy Agency will support the installation and operation of the sunlight power plant and provide consulting for energy-related certifications. NuguNae Sunlight Power and Dalgu-Bul Sunlight Power Cooperative will be responsible for the overall operation of the plant, including the installation and management of solar power facilities.

In particular, this collaboration is expected to produce approximately 131 MWh of electricity annually and reduce carbon emissions by 56 tons, which is equivalent to planting about 400 pine trees.

Myungseop Jeong, President of Daegu Urban Development Corporation, stated, "I hope this agreement will serve as a model case for ESG through public-private cooperation and citizen participation. We will also take the lead in expanding green remodeling and zero-energy buildings to achieve carbon neutrality."
