The Department of Esports Industry at Honam University announced on the 25th that it held a completion ceremony for the "Esports Coaching Leadership Program," which was conducted in collaboration with T1 Academy.
This program, held from May 19 to 21, selected 20 students from the department who aspire to become esports coaches. The program combined theoretical and practical training, focusing on strengthening participants' coaching skills applicable in the field and cultivating the leadership qualities required of coaches.
On the first day, participants attended coaching theory classes covering an overview of coaching, understanding psychology, and effective teaching methods. On the second day, they learned about replay analysis methods and real-time coaching for the League of Legends (LoL) and VALORANT (VAL) titles. The third day focused on the ethics and philosophy of coaching, as well as learning how to analyze game strategies and establish data-driven strategies.
Park Jinhyuk, a second-year student who participated in the leadership program, said, "I have always been interested in esports coaching, and participating in this program greatly helped me understand the competencies required of a coach and the learning activities I need to prepare to become a coaching professional."
Graduates of this leadership program will be given opportunities to participate in youth gaming classes and coaching at the Esports Education Center through additional training provided by the department.
A representative from the Honam University Department of Esports Industry said, "In 2023, we were selected for the Esports Professional Talent Development Project supported by the Korea Creative Content Agency, and we are currently carrying out the third year of the project. We also plan to conduct an esports industry education program operated by T1, and as part of field learning, we will visit T1 Academy for mentoring sessions with industry experts."
