On May 25, Samsung C&T announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZA) at the Ras Bufontas Business Innovation Park in Doha, the capital of Qatar. The agreement covers joint investment and technological cooperation for sustainable infrastructure projects in Qatar going forward.
The signing ceremony was attended by Samsung C&T CEO O Secheol, QFZA CEO Sheikh Mohammed Al Thani, and other key executives and stakeholders from both organizations.
QFZA is currently developing three special economic free zones, primarily around Hamad International Airport and the port area in Qatar, to build infrastructure across industries such as logistics, manufacturing, and technology, thereby securing future growth engines.
Through this agreement, both parties have agreed to pursue extensive cooperation and specific action plans for sustainable infrastructure projects, including solar power generation and data centers, that are planned for the Qatar Free Zones in the future.
QFZA will be responsible for providing land and infrastructure, supporting various permits and approvals, and offering legal, regulatory, and incentive support. Samsung C&T, in turn, will jointly invest in various projects and provide the technology and expertise necessary for the execution and operation of infrastructure projects.
QFZA CEO Sheikh Mohammed Al Thani stated, "This agreement marks a significant turning point in transforming Qatar into a global platform equipped with sustainable innovation and advanced technology. We will create long-term value across all sectors, including the economy, society, and environment, and will actively support global leading companies like Samsung C&T to lead Qatar's future industries."
O Secheol, CEO of Samsung C&T Construction Division, said, "Through cooperation with the Qatar Free Zones Authority in various fields such as green energy and digital infrastructure, we plan to actively participate in projects that contribute to achieving Qatar's national vision."
Samsung C&T is currently undertaking several major plant projects in Qatar, including a large-scale 875MW solar power plant, LNG terminals, and combined desalination and power generation facilities. With this agreement, the company plans to expand its participation in a variety of infrastructure projects.
