Russia and North Korea to Hold Bilateral Security Talks on May 28-29

Sergey Shoigu, Secretary of the Russian Security Council, is scheduled to meet with North Korea's security representative in Moscow, according to a report by Russian state news agency RIA Novosti on the 23rd (local time).

The Russian Security Council announced in a statement that Secretary Shoigu will hold bilateral meetings with representatives from several countries, including North Korea, on the occasion of the 13th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues, which will take place in Moscow from May 28 to 29.


According to the Security Council, during this period, Secretary Shoigu is expected to meet with high-level representatives from North Korea, Nicaragua, Vietnam, Thailand, Iran, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Algeria. He will also hold bilateral meetings with representatives from various countries in India, Latin America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and North America.


However, it was not specified who will attend the event as North Korea's representative. Previously, in March, Secretary Shoigu visited North Korea and met with State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong Un, playing a key role in facilitating high-level, close contacts between North Korea and Russia.


The International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues, scheduled for May 27 to 29, is expected to be attended by more than 125 delegations from over 100 countries and 14 international organizations. Earlier, TASS news agency reported that on the day before the event opens, Secretary Shoigu will hold talks with Chen Wenqing, Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China, who will be attending as the Chinese representative.
