Yeoju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on May 23 that it has officially named the octagonal pavilion located at the summit of Hwanghaksan as "Hwanghaksan Observatory," and the pedestrian bridge crossing National Road No. 42 from the Hwanghaksan Forest Recreation Area as "Hwanghaksan Cloud Bridge."
To select these names, Yeoju City conducted a preference survey among 870 citizens.
For the pavilion, the candidates were "Hwanghaksan Observatory" and "Hwanghakjeong," with 529 people choosing "Hwanghaksan Observatory." For the pedestrian bridge, the options were "Hwanghaksan Cloud Bridge" and "Hwanghaksan Pedestrian Bridge," and "Hwanghaksan Cloud Bridge" received 807 votes.
The head of the Yeoju City Forest Park Division stated, "We aim to establish the Hwanghaksan hiking trails and nearby facilities as representative tourist attractions of Yeoju City by giving them names that are easy for everyone to remember and use," adding, "We will continue to work on creating landmarks together with our citizens."
Hwanghaksan is already a popular destination for tourists, boasting outstanding natural scenery, well-maintained hiking trails, and a forest recreation area. With the confirmation of these names, the city expects its tourism infrastructure to be further strengthened.
