"Apply for the Housing Stability Scholarship for University Students"… Korea Student Aid Foundation Provides 200,000 Won per Month

The Korea Student Aid Foundation (Chairman Bae Byungil) and the Ministry of Education (Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Lee Juhyo) announced that applications for the Housing Stability Scholarship for the second semester of 2025 will be accepted from May 23 to 6:00 p.m. on June 23, which coincides with the first application period for the National Scholarship for the second semester of 2025.

The Housing Stability Scholarship is a living expense scholarship that provides up to 200,000 won per month to cover actual housing-related expenses for low-income university students who have enrolled in institutions far from their homes, in order to alleviate their housing burden.

University students enrolled at participating institutions (a total of 268 universities) are eligible to apply. Unmarried students under the age of 39 from basic or near-basic income families, who have difficulty commuting due to attending a university far from home, can receive up to 200,000 won per month in housing stability scholarship during the semester.

Whether a student is considered to have enrolled in a distant institution is determined based on the distance review criteria, which take into account whether the student's university and their parents' registered addresses are located in different transportation zones. For example, if a student attends a university in the Seoul metropolitan area and their parents' address is outside the metropolitan area, the student is recognized as having enrolled in a distant institution because the university and the parents' address are in different metropolitan transportation zones.

For regions that are not part of a metropolitan transportation zone, the commuting zone is considered to include adjacent cities or the relevant county area based on the city or county where the university is located. If the parents' address is outside this commuting zone, the student is recognized as having enrolled in a distant institution and is eligible for support.

Bae Byungil, Chairman of the Korea Student Aid Foundation, stated, "The Housing Stability Scholarship is an important program that helps students focus on their studies by reducing the burden of housing costs," and added, "Through this first application period for the second semester, we will continue to expand support so that more students can benefit, and we will work to establish even better systems in the future."
