"I'm an Executive at a Cosmetics Company"... Man in His 40s Sentenced to Prison for Stealing 50 Million Won

According to the legal community on May 24, Judge Kim Seongeun of the Seoul Southern District Court Criminal Division 13 sentenced Lee to eight months in prison on charges of fraud.

On February 22 of last year, Lee told the victim, "I am a person holding an executive-level position at Company A, a cosmetics company," and said, "I can make you a cosmetics sales dealer for the company, but you need to pay a deposit of 100 million won."

Deceived by Lee's words, the victim transferred 50 million won to Lee four days later. However, from the beginning, Lee had neither the intention nor the ability to allow the victim to work as a dealer, and he planned to use the money received from the victim to pay off personal debts and cover living expenses.

Lee had previously been sentenced to two years and six months in prison for fraud in 2022, and committed this new fraud just four days after being released from prison on February 18 of last year.

Judge Kim stated, "Although the defendant has admitted to the crime and is showing remorse, he has neither reached an agreement with the victim nor compensated for the damages. The court also considered that he has a history of multiple punishments for similar crimes and committed this offense again during the repeat offender period."
