Construction of Public Offices and Infrastructure Facilities
Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on May 22 that it will begin full-scale development of Section 2, the remaining site of the Songjeong District Urban Development Project.
This project is expected to serve as the starting point for the creation of a large-scale, integrated city where residential, commercial, and public functions are harmoniously combined, injecting new vitality into the local community.
The Songjeong District Urban Development Project is a core strategic initiative by Gwangju City aimed at transforming the area into a future-oriented urban space. The project seeks to improve residential environments and expand public infrastructure to create a city closely connected to daily life.
Section 1, completed in October 2021, significantly improved living conditions by developing a total area of 263,535 square meters, including Songjeong Elementary School, residential complexes, and commercial facilities.
Section 2, which has now commenced construction, covers an area of 15,586 square meters. Although the timeline was delayed due to the postponed relocation of the KD Daewon Express bus depot, the relocation to Chuja-dong, scheduled for June, has now been confirmed, enabling full-scale development.
Section 2 will see the systematic construction of public offices and various infrastructure facilities. In particular, major public institutions such as a 119 Safety Center, a district police station, and a public health center will be established, greatly expanding facilities aimed at improving citizen safety, health, and quality of life.
Mayor Bang Sehwan stated, "This Songjeong District Urban Development Project goes beyond simple land development and represents a transformation into a complex city that encompasses central functions of daily life. With the simultaneous construction of public facilities, administrative services closely connected to residents' lives will be strengthened, making this an opportunity for Gwangju to become a city with high citizen satisfaction."
