Gwangjin-gu Provides Door Opening Sensors for Vulnerable Groups

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyungho) is installing and providing security equipment to prevent residential intrusion and crime among vulnerable groups.

The security equipment support project is part of a Seoul Metropolitan Government initiative and was selected for two programs: support for housing safety among vulnerable groups and the installation of emergency bells in underground spaces. The district has secured a budget of 13 million won to help create a safer living environment.

Door opening sensors and window locks will be delivered to eligible households. The support targets elderly residents, people with disabilities, and women-headed households living in single-family homes, multiplex houses, and row houses, where residential intrusion crimes occur more frequently than in apartment complexes.

The door opening sensor is a device that attaches to the door and sends an alert to a smartphone when the door is opened. This allows residents to know if someone has entered their home while they are away. The window lock attaches to the lower part of the window to prevent it from being opened widely, helping to stop intruders from entering through the window.

Security equipment will also be installed in underground spaces that are particularly vulnerable to crime. Two emergency bells will be set up near entrances along Gunja sidewalk. When the emergency button is pressed or a scream is detected, a strobe light is automatically activated and an alert is sent to the CCTV control center. After checking the video footage, the police are immediately dispatched to the scene.

The project will begin in earnest after June, starting with the establishment of a detailed plan. Security devices will be provided to 50 households, with the final recipients selected through a screening process targeting socially vulnerable groups such as the elderly, people with disabilities, and women-headed households.

Kim Kyungho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, stated, "This project was established to prevent residential intrusion and violence targeting vulnerable groups. We hope it will provide practical help in reducing crime," adding, "We will continue to do our best to eliminate blind spots in safety and make Gwangjin-gu a place where all residents can live with peace of mind."
