Busan Patriots and Veterans Office Honors 81st Anniversary of Park Chajeong's Death with Musical Drama

The Busan Regional Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs honored the spirit of sacrifice of independence activist Park Cha-jeong, a female armed independence fighter, on the 81st anniversary of her death through a musical drama.

The Busan Regional Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs (headed by Lee Namil) announced on May 21 that it held a musical drama commemorating the 81st anniversary of Park Cha-jeong's death at Geumbitnuri Hall in the Geumjeong Cultural Center on May 20. The performance, organized by the Busan Opera Cooperative Association, was attended by about 700 citizens, including students from Dongnae Girls' Middle and High School, Park's alma mater.

Park Cha-jeong, a native of Dongnae-gu, Busan, was a key figure in Geunwoohoe, an organization that led the women's movement and the national independence movement during the Japanese colonial period. In 1939, she was wounded in battle against the Japanese army at Kunlun Mountain, and ultimately died in 1944 without seeing the liberation of her homeland.

This musical drama was presented in the format of an independence gala musical based on Park's life story, vividly conveying to the audience the life of Park Cha-jeong, the "indomitable woman." The performance focused on her anti-Japanese resistance, as well as the hardships and dedication she endured as a female independence activist.

Lee Namil, head of the Busan Regional Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, stated, "This year marks the 80th anniversary of liberation, making the meaning even deeper," and added, "I hope this musical drama serves as an opportunity to remember the noble patriotism of Park Cha-jeong and the many other independence activists."
