Best Summer Vacation Weeks and Most Popular Destinations
This year, summer vacation will be more affordable if you depart in early July, with Monday flights being the cheapest option. The most popular overseas travel destination for this summer is Nha Trang, Vietnam.
According to a comprehensive analysis of flight ticket data for Korean travelers by the travel application Skyscanner on May 21, the most affordable summer vacation week this year is the first week of July (June 30 to July 6), followed by the second week of July (July 7 to July 13) and the third week of July (July 14 to July 20). By day of the week, Monday offered the lowest median round-trip airfare at 499,293 won.
This year, Nha Trang, Vietnam ranked first among the most popular summer vacation destinations. It was followed by Denpasar (Bali), Indonesia; Da Nang, Vietnam; Tokyo, Japan; and Sapporo, Japan.
According to Skyscanner's "2025 Smarter Summer Vacation Report," which surveyed 1,000 Korean travelers, 7 out of 10 respondents (70%) said that simply checking the weather forecast for their summer vacation destination increases their excitement and anticipation. In addition, many respondents said that thinking about summer vacation brings vitality to their daily lives.
Meanwhile, 66% of respondents said they would be willing to adjust their vacation schedule to save on travel costs. However, 1 in 2 respondents (52%) said, "I don't know when the relatively affordable summer vacation period is," indicating that while they dream of a cost-effective summer vacation, they are unsure of the specific timing.
Regarding summer vacation booking status this year, 1 in 2 respondents (50%) said, "I have not booked any travel products yet, but I am actively searching." The biggest reason for not having booked yet was, "I haven't decided where to go and need inspiration for my destination (41%)."
Jessica Min, a travel expert at Skyscanner, said, "Since 1 in 3 Korean travelers (31%) cited 'comparing flight or hotel prices' as the most difficult part of preparing for summer vacation, concerns about planning a reasonable summer vacation remain significant. If you want to find more affordable times to travel to various destinations, when searching for flights on the Skyscanner app, you can select 'specific dates' and see dates highlighted in green that are cheaper than the average, making it easy to adjust your schedule."
She added, "By using features such as the 'Wishlist,' which allows you to easily compare desired flights and automatically receive price change alerts, you can easily find the most reasonable travel times and destinations that fit your budget."
