82 Lifelong Learning Courses to Be Offered Until November
Seogu District in Gwangju is promoting a culture of lifelong learning in daily life by operating "Dong Campus" lifelong learning spaces in all 18 neighborhoods.
On May 21, Seogu District announced that it is the only one among the five autonomous districts to designate all 18 neighborhoods as "Dong Campus" and will operate 82 lifelong learning courses until November.
"Dong Campus" is a project that utilizes local spaces such as small libraries and community centers as learning hubs, creating an environment where residents can easily participate.
As part of the "World's Largest University, Seogu (Saekeundae)" initiative, "Dong Campus" has received positive feedback from residents by offering specialized courses linked to each neighborhood's Brand Identity (BI).
In addition, programs that reflect local characteristics are currently being offered, including "Chopyeong Full of Green" in Chopyeong-dong, "Healing Time with Hands" in Hwajeong 3-dong, "Traditional Culture Total Craft" in Seochang-dong, and "Reading, Debate, and Writing for Growing Thoughts" in Dongcheon-dong.
Starting this year, convenience for users has greatly improved, as residents can now check course information and register for classes through the Seogu Saekeundae lifelong learning website.
Kang, a course participant, said, "It's great that courses I'm interested in are offered in several neighborhoods, so if the schedule fits, I can choose to take classes at nearby Dong Campuses. There are also more opportunities to interact with neighbors, which has enriched my daily life."
Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seogu District, stated, "Learning is not a privilege for a select few, but a right for everyone. We will continue to build the 'World's Largest University, Seogu,' where any resident can learn and grow close to home."
