U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the American missile defense system known as the "Golden Dome" will be deployed operationally during his term. This announcement is cited as the reason for the strong performance of Kencoa Aerospace's stock, a company that supplies aerospace materials within the United States.
Kencoa Aerospace provides total solutions ranging from aircraft parts manufacturing and maintenance to the production of space launch vehicle components. Based on its unique technological capabilities, which cover everything from airframe design to certification, the company has established partnerships with global aerospace firms such as Boeing and Airbus, as well as domestic defense contractors like KAI and Hanwha Aerospace. Through its U.S. subsidiary, Kencoa Aerospace supplies aerospace materials to global aerospace companies. Its major clients include defense and aerospace manufacturers such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Pratt & Whitney, as well as space companies like NASA, SpaceX, and Blue Origin. The company has also obtained ITAR certification, which is required for the production of U.S. military supplies under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations.
As of 10:05 a.m. on May 21, Kencoa Aerospace was trading at 13,250 won, up 760 won (6.08%) from the previous trading day.
On May 20 (local time), President Trump stated during an announcement event held in the Oval Office at the White House, with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth in attendance, that the Golden Dome "must be fully operational before the end of my term."
Regarding the Golden Dome, President Trump explained, "Next-generation technologies, including space-based sensors and interceptor weapons, will be deployed on land, at sea, and in space." He added, "Canada has also expressed its desire to be part of the initiative and has reached out to us."
President Trump also stated that the total cost of building the Golden Dome would reach $175 billion (approximately 244 trillion won), with $25 billion of that amount currently reflected in the so-called "big and beautiful single bill" (a budget and tax cut bill) pending in Congress.
This plan by President Trump is analyzed as a measure to counter the capability of China, Russia, and North Korea to attack the U.S. mainland. Previously, during the Ronald Reagan administration in the 1980s, a similar concept called "Star Wars" was pursued, aiming to intercept enemy nuclear missiles using satellites. However, the project was halted due to budget constraints and technological limitations.
